Clément Martinery
The small format paintings of Belgian artist Clément Martinery hover somewhere between the figurative and abstract. The images are ephemeral and do not reveal themselves immediately, encouraging the observer to linger and intuit what the artist’s intention may be. The palet is muted, and the play between light and shade creates a particular atmostphere within the works. Points of glimmering light on dark backgrounds give a strong contrast which enhance a sense of mystery in these works.
Clément Martinery studied at the Académie Royale des Beaux Arts in Brussels. He teaches art and communication to children with special needs at the Institut Alexandre Herlin, in Berchem Sainte Agathe
